The freeze

French lessons if you freeze — pace first, then the sentence

The freeze is not a character flaw. It is what happens when the room, the clock, or the old classroom arrives before the sentence. Another speaking page on this site is about reading running ahead of the mouth. This one is the method: slow enough that you stay in the call, then you still have to say it.

Book Support for this if

You go blank, you laugh, you switch to English — and being “put on the spot” is how last time ended.

  • School, a group, or a tutor who filled the silence for you
  • You understand more than you will risk saying
  • You want a person who will wait, then make you retry — not a lecture, not a mockery

A freeze-aware lesson

We start where you can already stand. We add one hard minute. We stop before you shut down. Next week we add a little more.

  • 50 minutes, 1 on 1 — nobody watching except the tutor
  • Corrections you can feel, then a second try
  • Same prices as every other programme

Pace is the intervention

We do not talk over you. Silence is allowed, then a prompt, then your version. English is allowed when panic is the wall. French is still the goal. If we only comfort you, you leave with the same freeze. If we only push, you leave the school. The hour is both.

This is not the same page as “I can read but I can’t speak”

That FLE guide is the skill gap: input without output. Read it if that is the diagnosis. Stay here if the diagnosis is how you were taught — too fast, too public, too much shame — and you need the method changed before more conversation drills.

Homework that does not recreate the freeze

A short voice note to one person, not a speech to a camera you will never press send on. A sentence you will use this week. We will not set a novel. We will still ask you to produce.
